The evolution of Flightline has been taking place for over 25 years, ever since guitarist/singer/songwriter Bob Newton started the band. He was joined by bassist/singer Jack Sandusky Jr. a couple years later. For over 2 decades Bob and Jack have watched various personnel changes take place, until, in January 2024, they were joined by drummer/singer Gregg Lerner. A serendipitous relationship developed between them almost instantly, both musically and in personality. In a very short time they all realized there was something very special about what the three of them were creating together.

With an emphasis placed on original music, the versatility of musicianship these three bring to this group, and the variety of musical styles they write and play in, Flightline has become one of the most diverse bands anyone can see. Within the span of one set, audiences might be exposed to everything from tenderly delivered acoustic music with delicate 3-part harmony, to blues influenced styles, to hard hitting power trio rock’n’roll, even while incorporating jazz influences.
And with this, Flightline will pepper their sets of original music with recognizable, not often played cover songs that always seem to send audience members back in time. It is Flightline’s intention to transport audiences - to take them on a musical journey of styles and genres, of sounds and chord changes that draws the ear in, and of lyrics that evoke a range of emotion.
Bob Newton has been playing guitar since the 7th grade, and started writing his own music shortly after. Singing came a few years later, born more out of necessity from a lack of other vocalists. Bob has developed a unique style that blends beautifully with each of his songs, regardless of the musical genre he writes in. Bob composed and sang every song of Flightline’s past 3 albums, including the harmony backing vocals.

Jack Sandusky Jr. started playing bass when he was 13 years old and started playing in bands a couple of years later. He was touring throughout the 80’s and spent a great deal of time as a studio session player in the 90’s. Jack met Bob Newton in 2002 and they never looked back. Most recently, Jack has been introducing his voice to Flightline music singing backing harmonies.
Gregg Lerner has been playing drums since he was 11 years old. Over the years he has played and sang in numerous bands, in a multitude of styles and genre, as well as recording, musical theater, and touring. Gregg graduated with a BA in Music Performance from The Evergreen State College in 1986 and graduated with honors from the Percussion Institute of Technology at Musician’s Institute in 1989.
